So far so good..

Thanks for all the support so far!
Please Join the list if you have not yet done so, it keeps you up to date and gives us a list of names to show the council.

The number of people interested in this project has grown beyond anything I had imagined and I have some good news!

I recently sent an email to Bromley council telling them about the blog and all the great support the idea has got so far and what we were after..

Today I had a reply;

Dear Jake,

Thank you for your email and I was very pleased to hear of your enthusiasm for this sport.

You will be pleased to hear some progress has occurred with Skate in Bromley:

The first scheme is at Biggin Hill and is in for planning permission at the moment, sadly there is already some opposition and it’s a 50/50 whether it will get through. This is for a concrete skate park (like the Dartford one which I have been to, but no where near as big). It’s actually been organised by kids at the Spitfire Youth centre and also the Police of Biggin Hill! Cost will be around £60-£80K and would be Bromley’s first concrete skate park, fingers crossed.

The second scheme is in the Town Centre of Bromley in the Park behind the High street. There are some tennis courts there of which we are changing one to a skate area. This year we are taking fences down and resurfacing in a nice super smooth tarmac and installing a couple of street ramps. Sadly the ramps will only be a token but it is more of a test as if it is popular and no trouble is caused more could be on its way, possibly with another concrete park covering a few tennis courts. This should be all finished in 3-4 weeks. Cost around £20k some of the money coming from the Safer Neighbourhoods team.

It is interesting to see on both schemes either the money or the organisation is coming from sources who know these areas do not cause problems but can actually solve them by giving teenagers something to do.

As the first scheme is in for planning approval it would not hurt to show your support by looking online at Bromleys Planning dept and writing in. The more people in favour for it the more likely it is to go ahead. I know Biggin Hill is a little way out from Bromley but it is closer than Dartford.

Do please keep in contact as we are trying our best to get more skating opportunities into this Borough.

Yours faithfully,

Andy

Now as Andy said we need to show our support for this build and the more support we show the more people they need to accommodate for meaning possibly a bigger park!

So just take 2 minutes to send a short email to;
planning@bromley.gov.uk
Make sure to include this ref number (09/00487) and your address.

Feel free to use this default message if you don't know what else to put;

The beginning

Today I checked the UKSA website and found this news report.

I then immediatley created this temporary page to see how much interest there would be in Bromley and the surrounding areas for a skate park.

With the help of the Youth Funding Offer we have a chance at finally getting a local park to rival those such as Dartford !

However, as many of you probably know many planned parks have failed in the past when the local council doesn't believe that there would be sufficient interest in a skatepark in their area.
Thus I created this site as (hopefully) a way of bringing local skaters together for this cause and giving the council proof that this would not be a waste of space.

If this is of interest to you please follow the link below;

Based on the response from this I will take the site further.

Lets do this !
